The economic situation will not change until confidence returns. This will take some time but Obama will certainly help the situation. Change is a good thing and if as we expect, the USA spends less on financing 'the war on terrorism' then hopefully some of these billions will be used to support US business and the less well-off in their society. If confidence, respect and a sense of pride returns to the USA then the world will benefit. My hope is that Obama understands that he has been elected by US citizens but the world will judge him for his statesmanship, morality and sensitivity and this is what will make him stand-out from the Bush era.

The expectations for Obama are exceedingly high and one cannot underestimate the dire situation in the US and global economy. Obama will be good news if he leads a global solution however there is a real danger the US will head towards protectionism in its response to the global crisis.
